I didn’t ask for a brother…

August 13, 2011
Is among the popular refrains Soph utters  shouts when she is feeling particularly mad/jealous/pay attention to meeeeeeeeeeee!   This usually occurs when I am either nursing J or, well, pretty much anytime I give him a slight bit more attention than she likes (because if there is something I have learned in this parenting adventure, it is that 3.83 year olds like attention.  Lots and lots of good old attention.  Especially when you have their baby brother glued to your mammary for what must seem like hours.  Because time is funny like that when you are 3.83).

And the funny part about all of the kvethching she does it is that she clearly does love her brother.  (At least this is the theory we are going with.  Don’t burst our bubble). Sometimes that love may be perceived as just a little too strong (ie, the squeezed hands incidents of MondayTuesdayWednesdayThursdayFridaySaturdaySunday), but when he is not around she always asks where he is.   And when he is coming back.

And oh does J love him some Soph.  When he comes downstairs in the morning (no, not on his own yet.  That will probably be in the next week. Lord help us ) his eyes search out her face and when he spots her, he grins from ear to ear.  I don’t even garner that kind of reaction and I am so NOT responsible for the squeezed hands incidents of MondayTuesdayWednesdayThursdayFridaySaturdaySunday.   But he giggles and laughs at her antics (throwing a ball straight at me?  HILARIOUS baby humor) and I think she likes this.   Likes making her baby brother smile and giggle his way to happiness.

But oh, these sibling relationships, they just are so complicated wonderful  wonderfully complicated.

Both our worlds are about to be ROCKED
